Today’s energy crisis — with oil and gas prices skyrocketing and electricity costs rising — hurts small businesses and families; to say nothing of its impact on the cost of large corporations, schools, local government, and every other aspect of our economy.
I support a long-term energy plan that allows free markets to balance supply and demand, ensures reliable and competitively-priced energy for the future, and creates incentives for responsible stewardship of the nation’s resources and environment.
America must maximize energy production from all sources — oil, natural gas, wind, bio-fuels, nuclear, clean coal, and more; but with a realistic, market-driven approach, not the government-dictated one favored by the Obama Administration.
In Congress I will work to:
- Remove bureaucratic and legal obstacles to responsible oil and natural gas development in the United States and offshore;
- End the ban on oil shale development in the American West, where we have three times the amount of oil as Saudi Arabia;
- Change federal law in order to allow drilling for oil and natural gas in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR);
- Give coastal states federal royalty revenue sharing to give these states an incentive to allow offshore development of energy sources;
- Reduce frivolous lawsuits by environmental groups that hold up energy production, by enacting loser-pays laws in such cases;
- Streamline regulatory protocols and implement a favorable tax structure for building a new generation of safe nuclear reactors;
- Significantly scale back and streamline the EPA, which has developed into a job-killing regulatory monster of higher energy prices.
I have the experience necessary to right the wrongs President Obama is doing to America regarding energy independence.
